JUDE ("JUst give me the Damn recipE") is a browser extension that extracts ingredients and instructions from recipe webpages. This policy explains what data JUDE handles, how it is used, and what is never collected.
JUDE does not collect, store, or sell any personal data. Recipe extraction itself happens entirely inside your browser — no page content is sent anywhere for that. A small number of optional features (translating a recipe, shopping your list) do send limited text to a third-party service, but only when you actively choose to use them. See below for exactly what's sent and to whom.
How Extraction Works
When you open a recipe page, JUDE reads the ingredients and instructions directly from that page's own content, using code that runs locally in your browser. No third-party AI service, API key, or external CORS proxy is used or required. The page content never leaves your device during this process.
Data We Handle
Saved Recipes & Meal Plans
Recipes you save, scale, or add to a meal plan are stored locally in your browser using its built-in extension storage
This data is never transmitted anywhere and is never accessible to the developer
You can clear it at any time by removing saved items or uninstalling the extension
Shopping with Instacart
When you select ingredients and tap "Shop on Instacart," only the names of the ingredients you selected are used — never the recipe page, your browsing history, or any personal identifier
Currently, this copies the selected ingredient names to your clipboard so you can paste them into Instacart's own shopping list. No data is sent to any JUDE-operated server for this feature today.
JUDE is in the process of integrating with the Instacart Developer Platform (IDP). Once that integration is live, tapping "Shop on Instacart" will instead send the selected ingredient names to a JUDE-operated server (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards them to Instacart's API to generate a single pre-populated cart link. See the Affiliate Disclosure for details on how that relationship works and is compensated.
Separately, each individual ingredient shown in your list is also a clickable link that opens an Instacart search for that specific item in a new tab. Clicking it takes you directly to Instacart, the same as clicking any other external link — no data is sent by JUDE as part of that click.
Translating a Recipe
If you tap "Translate to…" and choose a language, the recipe's title, ingredients, and instructions are sent to MyMemory, a third-party translation API, so it can return a translated version
This only happens when you actively pick a language — it never happens automatically or in the background
Only the recipe text itself is sent — never your name, browsing history, or any personal identifier
Per MyMemory's own terms of service, submitted text may be retained by them to operate and improve their translation service. See MyMemory's terms for details on how they handle text sent to their API
What We Never Do
Never collect your name, email, or any personal identifiers
Never track your browsing history or activity across sites
Never share data with advertisers
Never use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
Never require an account or sign-in
Third-Party Services
JUDE communicates with two third-party services, and only when you actively use the related feature:
Instacart — when you shop your ingredient list or click an ingredient link. See Instacart's Privacy Policy.
Neither service receives anything beyond the specific text needed for the feature you triggered — never your browsing history, other page content, or personal identifiers.
Data Retention
Saved recipes and meal plans persist in your browser's local storage until you delete them or uninstall the extension. JUDE retains no copy of this data on any server, because no server is involved in storing it.
Children's Privacy
JUDE is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
